Music!

Have been downloading lots of music from assorted female rock/punk types, & some Riot Grrl stuff (specifically: Joan Jett, the Raincoats, L7, Patti Smith, & X-Ray Spex, which admittedly I already had a bit of). It is all rather fine. I fear this has been a Hideous Gap in my musical knowledge (bad feminist! no biscuit!) which I should update forthwith.

Which has led me to think: having just requested book recommendations, I should now request music recommendations. So - recommend me music! One track (or artist, but if possible give a particularly good track) you think I should know but might not.

(particularly pleased to have found both this track & 'Cruel To Be Kind', also by the Raincoats, which are both on the 10 Things I Hate About You soundtrack & I like v much)

If you're looking for Riot Grrl type stuff, try Babes in Toyland - Hansel and Gretel. If you're downloading more L7, make sure you get Fast and Frightening.

In a similar vein to your downloads?

Ooh, good film...

That's my evening viewing sorted, thank you!

Oh, do you actually have the 10 Things I Hate About You soundtrack btw? If not I could make you a copy?

The Land 2-CD set of Patti Smith is v good (a kind of best-of affair). But if you have the capacity to brrrrn (heh!:)) you can borrow this off me plus assorted sleater-kinney/le tigre albums! (the first le tigre album is WICKED)

'Cruel To Be Kind' is originally by Nick Lowe. I've got the female-fronted cover of this song as well, but I've got the artist down as 'Letters To Cleo' instead of the Raincoats. Are there two different versions or is my artist wrong?

Not particularly Riot Grrl, but rather good:

Linda Perry (solo stuff, and 4 Non Blondes) - the album is In Flight, and all the tracks from it are great.
Sunshot (but if you find any online, please tell me, as I only have the live album)

Veruca Salt. "Seether." from "American Thighs."

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this so far, as it's a classic of the genre and one of Kauket's favourites.
