I think if I was at a loose end I'd be worried about getting too close to somebody who was knitting, in case they knitted my loose-end-ish-ness up into a scarf or something.

Re porridge -- if you put hot water in the pan to soak it straight away after you get the porridge out of it, it's much easier to wash.
