Clearing out Firefox tabs, so this is a slightly random set of links:

• Collection of publications from The Corner House on climate change & associated subjects (I haven't read any of these as yet, but they look potentially interesting).
• Rocky Mountain Institute, who are involved in generating/promoting low-carbon energy solutions.
• Mandelbulb: 3D Mandelbrot sets. Pretty!
• Seven-year-olds building desktops & installing Ubuntu! I love this.
• Overdoing it a bit, or, how not to spend a weekend (warning, discusses drugs & drug experiences. Quite a *lot* of drug experiences. One wonders whether this person is acquainted with the chap we saw at Glade who was sprinkling ketamine, MDMA, shrooms, and speed onto his plate of pasta.)
• Warning about LJ & interstitial malware.
• A bunch of articles from the interesting anarchists at Crimethink.

(The slightly alarming thing is that, having cleared out all the tabs that were just waiting to be linked to somewhere, I now still have about 20 tabs which are waiting for me to read them / watch them / do something with them. [sigh].)

I actually thought the chap at Glade seemed very aware of what he was doing: while he had this whole carefree abandon schtick going on, he always seemed to be to be in complete control of what he was doing. The whole shrooms-on-pasta thing was probably just good marketing; similarly, he sometimes seemed to be bumbling around at random until you walked around with him for a bit and realized that it was actually quite well thought out.

Chap on erowid, though.. ..not so much.

This is true, yes -- he did seem more switched-on than one might immediately imagine, & in fact I don't think he actually ate much of the dodgy pasta :)

(Deirdre's comment below I think does indicate the most eye-rolling part of the Erowid person.)

I love this bit: I was told that I have a lot to give to this world and should not let the pursuit of a “high” stop me from being the best person I can. I agreed. I snapped out of it as D walked up behind me. He handed me another 2 capsules of mescaline and said he was going to go fuck out in the tent. I took them and decided to go do the same.

Oh dear. It's like "Lord, make me chaste, but not yet."

I mean, I can at least understand people ignoring the good advice of their friends, but when the very *drugs* are jumping up and down yelling 'for god's sake, stop taking us!' you'd think he might pay attention...
