Weekend activity
Nov. 8th, 2004 05:48 pmPete & I did the Green Gym thing again on Saturday morning, this time at Newham City Farm. We cut back some trees in their wildlife area, & did a bit of weeding in the newly-planted wildflower meadow. Some of the weeds were potato plants (the meadow's been planted where the compost heap used to be, which is actually a bit of a nuisance since wildflowers want a fairly nutrient-thin soil so there's been lots of sand mixed in with it), so I took them home & now have potato plants in the big tub in the back garden. Hopefully they'll survive the transplanting.
Went to
katstevens' housewarming in the evening, which was fun, although we bailed fairly early to catch the last tube home. Possibly I should have been more outgoing etc & attempted to talk more to people I don't know, but I'm not really feeling that good at doing that atm. I did chat to some other people a bit, so that's an achievement. And then got all overenthusiastic about my deep desire to own a POWER DRILL, to the apparent concern of several of the lads in the kitchen. Hurrah.
Did assorted Useful Things yesterday, inc the gardening (not only did I plant potatoes, but I also harvested lots & lots of rocket seeds. This feels like being a Proper Gardener. And I made friends with one of the black kittens from two doors down whilst doing it). Then P & I went to the Comedy Store to see the Comedy Store Players (inc Paul Merton, who is v good) do their improv thing. And most entertaining it was too, though another time I shall remember to get there a lot earlier - the place was nearly full when we arrived & we wound up with seats halfway behind a pillar. Notable features of the evening included what appeared to be a night out for a group of bartenders (possibly), who were over-rowdy to start with but calmed down, apart from the one who stage-invaded & was removed from the venue. And a wanking robot, in the SF Musical that made up most of the second half. Would definitely go back again.
Today I have been talking to my dad about kitchens; and phoning John Lewis to get quotes for the floor; and generally panicking. Oh yes, & doing Work. Boo to werk.
Pete is getting life insurance. Time to break out the ground glass for dinner ect ect.
