juliet: My rat Holly grooming herself (holly rats)

Luthien died on Wednesday, of a massive heart attack - Pete heard her falling down the little ladder in the cage, and picked her up in time for her to die in his hands :-( She was 2 1/2 (not bad for a rat), and had been getting visibly older in the last week or so. Her sister Arwen died (again of old age, overnight) on the 3rd March.

They were both wonderful rats - I can't thank [livejournal.com profile] arkady enough for breeding them. Arwen was always a skinny little thing, steadily more so as she aged, whereas her sister Luthien was a great big squishy lump of a rat - when she tucked her nose under her to sleep, she became almost spherical :-) Both of them were friendly, although Arwen was more the sociable shoulder-rat (she very much enjoyed settling on someone's shoulder & staying there), and would frequently beg to come out. Luthien thoroughly enjoyed a little scritch but was far more focussed on the eating & sleeping sides of life. Especially the eating! They were both very special in their different

Bramble is now on her own for the moment, but we're in the process of sorting out company for her.

RIP Luthien & Arwen.
