So, an update, and the odd link. It's late and I'm tired, so you're getting bullet points rather than, y'know, real sentences.

  • I went to my first acting class with these people this evening, and it was great fun. I am glad that I didn't give into the urge that briefly gripped me, whilst waiting for things to kick off, to run screaming into the night. (I had however just paid for the full term of 10 lessons, so running screaming into the night wasn't actually very likely to happen.) But yes: much less scary than anticipated. We played many silly improv games.
  • In further "doing alarming things" news, I went to the Sydney Poly Social monthly pub thingy yesterday, which involved going up to a bunch of people none of whom I had ever met before and introducing myself. But that went very well as well - there were nice people, and I had a couple of beers and chatted, and I volunteered to help out with (or, er, possibly to drive) the bi float for Mardi Gras. Because apparently I am constitutionally incapable of *not* volunteering during these little discussions. But hey, Sydney Mardi Gras!
  • Those two things together probably mean I'm all out of social abilities for the rest of the week. I am going to an outdoor cinema showing of RHPS on Wednesday, but on my own. (It's dress-up-etc, apparently, but obviously I have nothing in which to dress up, so screw that. I might wear the Black Safety Pin Dress, because, well, it's short & vaguely punk, and therefore appropriate for very nearly any occasion.
  • One occasion for which the Black Safety Pin Dress is probably not appropriate is formal dinner on the Queen Mary 2. Which is a bugger, as I have just booked to come back from the US in June on the Queen Mary 2[0], and I am not sure I have sufficient posh frocks for the trip. I'm sure I can sort something out. (I am quite excited about this! They have ballroom dancing in the afternoon, and they provide chaps to be danced with if you have neglected to bring your own! And there's a planetarium!) I will be returning on the Thursday of Glastonbury, so it'll be Southampton, London, unpack, repack, and ho! for Castle Cary. And then NI for [livejournal.com profile] uon's sister's wedding immediately after that. After which I might have a nice lie down for, I dunno, a month or two.
  • I have something like 5 articles due for either Friday or Monday, which might be thought to be bad planning. But they're all going to happen on time, so that's fine. Yes.
  • The Cockroach Situation continues; there was a sodding *enormous* one in the kitchen this evening, charging merrily around the place despite my actually being RIGHT THERE with the light on. I am reconsidering the lethal approach. (I did manage to trap and evict this one, but only after quite a lot of girly shrieking, though given that it ran RIGHT PAST MY FVCKING FOOT I think the girly shrieking was legitimate.)
  • Awesome link: photos of female political leaders from around the world.
  • Um. I think that's it. I should go to bed now, but I'm still a bit wired from the acting class. More surfing tomorrow! Apparently the surf is better now.
[0] The only available freighter crossing wasn't actually that much cheaper, couldn't give a firm date, and would have taken me to Antwerp, so bugger that, Glorious Overindulgent Posh Frock Luxury it is.
