And here we are again.
(2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013.)

1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?

Parented a 2 year old. Went to Worldcon (went to an SF con at all, in fact). Had a beach holiday as an adult (in Cornwall, in September, and it was lovely). Took a dog to the dentist.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't exactly have resolutions, but I had aims. Definitely achieved half, mostly or partly achieved a quarter, didn't achieve the remaining quarter. Interestingly the category I was most successful with (100%) was the one that was most important to me, and the least successful one (25% maybe, 75% no) was the one I was most meh about. Which is informative for thinking about next year.

I will have aims for next year. Fewer of them, though; I was a bit overenthusiastic last year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
doop's sister & brother-in-law (to Olivia), and my friends Charlotte and Julian (to Iris).

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not to me, but close friends lost people; and I wasn't close to Gill but would have liked to have been better friends.

5. What countries did you visit?
N Ireland.

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
More mental space and time.
A finished Permaculture Diploma (this may clash a little with the above, but then it'll be finished).
More sleep.

(Last year I wanted a coat cupboard (tick! actually it is a shoe cupboard and it is AWESOME), a grape vine that hasn't been eaten by slugs/snails/aliens (tick, at least so far), more focus on my writing (tick, although still working on it), and more sleep (NOPE NU-UH). )

7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Not very good with dates per se, but: [important financial thing] probably.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Leon still seems happy.
The shoe cupboard!
Finished 1.5th draft of novel. Need to have another bash through it though as it is nothing like finished.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Shouting at the dog too much :/

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really?

11. What was the best thing you bought?
doop got me lovely knitting needles. And on current showing I am very enamoured of my new noise cancelling headphones (Xmas present from Pete).
A really nice dress (not a special dress, just one for wearing day-to-day, though it's not breastfeeding-compatible so only when out for the day).
My London Library membership has on balance been worth it; hoping to use it more next year.
Oh! New Powerbook. It rocks and has made life much less annoying.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Pete & doop as ever. Leon continues awesome. [livejournal.com profile] angelmine is fabulous and continues to deal with trying situations with impressive calm.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
As last year and the year before: lots of politicians. ARGH ARGH ARGH.

14. Where did most of your money go?
No idea. Misc expenses. Stuff for Leon.
Books. Lots and lots of books. Mostly on Kindle.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Glastonbury! Again!
Leon learning to read has been awesome to watch. (And lots of other bits of development, especially language, but the reading is particularly cool.)

16. What song will always remind you of 2014?
??

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? About the same. Maybe a little happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? A bit fatter, but my clothes still fit.
iii. richer or poorer? Bit poorer, because new laptop.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. Taking time out. I would still like to do more socialising but it's still difficult to manage.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Last year and the year before I said "maybe/definitely fewer night feeds". HA. This year: god yes really fewer night feeds, I am ready to be done with it. I am very slowly starting to gently do something about this.
Generally fretting and trying to fit too many things in and feeling anxious. Especially social anxiety.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
As per usual, spent it in Bermondsey, with Pete (for the morning, before he went off to the boat) & doop & Leon, and my family visiting on Boxing Day. It's the first one Leon has really understood/appreciated, and it was great fun :)

21. Did you fall in love in 2014?
No.

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Things I have watched this year: Dr Who; an old program about gardens; The Thick Of It; The Good Wife; Frozen about 9 million times; a bit of CBeebies. Of that probably The Good Wife is my favourite but tbh I am not that bothered about TV.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Don't think so.

25. What was the best book you read?
Probably Hild, by Nicola Griffith. The Steven Brust Draegeran series is challenging for first place but that's not a single book.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Pass. I need to listen to more music.

27. What did you want and get?
To sell some more stories. More time for writing.

28. What did you want and not get?
Sleep. As much hanging out with friends as I would like.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?
Films I have seen this year: Frozen, Paddington. I am not sure which is better.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 36, and I had a party here, and it was much fun.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Leon sleeping through the night.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Tunics/long tops that I can feed Leon in. (Again.) Blue/teal things.

33. What kept you sane?
Partners. Self-belief (rational or otherwise). Being realistic about what I can achieve. Reading more. Allowing myself more actual downtime. doop taking Leon out for a WHOLE DAY once in a while.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Um. No one?

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
'Austerity' (insert swearwords here).

36. Who did you miss?
Maia. Richard. Quite a few old friends who I am seeing much less often these days.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Elaine (local parent).

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014
No really, chill out.
Sometimes stopping doing something really is the best idea.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year
?

40. Did you enjoy this year?
Yes.

Here's to 2015 being amazing, and wishing you a toddler who sleeps through and subsequently more sleep :)

Also wishing you continued and more success in writing!
