juliet: Two pints of beer on a pub table (beer!)

So. Previous occasions have featured tasty whiskybooze; today it is instead the turn of the tasty winebooze, at the gaff of [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth & [livejournal.com profile] catsgomiaow. Bring on the juice of the grape!

Present: [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth, [livejournal.com profile] catsgomiaow, [livejournal.com profile] whysoglum, [livejournal.com profile] marnameow, [livejournal.com profile] dogrando, [livejournal.com profile] uon, me. [livejournal.com profile] katstevens & [livejournal.com profile] boyofbadgers have just shown up already An Bit Pissed & declared their intention to drink beer instead. Thus continuing, albeit with a different beverage, the Kat-Gin-Drinker tradition of opting out of any actual tasting. Traditions are important.

Cloudy Bay 2003 (Sauvignon Blanc): I think it's appley. Marna says it tastes like white wine (Marna = not big white wine fan). Katie reckons it smells honeysuckley. Marna also reckons it has a bit of sour in; Katie compares to Haribo sweeties (with added discursion into the non-vegan nature of the aforesaid). Pete mentions kiwi fruit (appropriate for a New Zealandish).

[livejournal.com profile] sbp & [livejournal.com profile] mrs_leroy_brown have arrived. Hurrah.

Vouvray 2004: Katie says it smells of the seaside. Marna prefers it to the last one: "sweeter & less vinegary, and peary" (not, apparently, "hairy" which is how I first heard that comment). I think it's a lot sweeter. Ben says "more elderflowery & gooseberriey". I actually prefer this to the Cloudy Bay, despite having previously been quite a Cloudy Bay fan. Ben tells me it is about a quarter the price, so, er, go me & my non-expensive tastes (this clearly counteracts my preference for extremely expensive champagne).

Rick is discussing whisky. WRONG EVENING.

Pete says that the French are apparently going to start putting grape variety names on their bottles; however, as yet no sign has been seen of this in the wild.

Cotes du Rhone Village: Doop reckons this smells cheesey; but it doesn't taste like that (probably for the best; nice though cheese is it is not a good wine taste). Katie thinks it's very tasty. Marna says "grape musk musky"; Pete says "dusty, back of a cupboard"; Doop "attic". It's very drying to the roof of the mouth. Marna says it has a bitter taste at the end, which Pete mishears as it being "rather revisionist". Which is clearly a far better comment. General consensus: Very Nice Indeed. I would like more of this but am being Sensible ftb there is more wine yet to come.

Kat, Katie, Rick & Paul have retired to Katie's room to watch the Big Brother eviction. Pete is deconstructing BB wrt what Ben describes as "fake introspection".

Chateau Musar 1997: Doop says "cherry coke". It is indeed awfully fizzy. Pete "blackcurrant jam", which matches doop's "black forest gateau" (well, nearly matches. Blackcurrant/cherries. Whatever). Marna agrees re cherries: "slightly oversweetness". She also reckons it's a bit too porty. It does taste rather sweet. Normally I really like this, but somehow after the Cotes du Rhone it doesn't taste as impressive as normal. Pete says it taste like Middle Eastern cooking - heavily sweetened, a bit like a tagine, with raisins & dried apricots & spices & whatnot. Given that it comes from Lebanon this is Appropriate.

Katie, briefly returned from BB, says it tasted of Glastonbury bonfires. Mmm, bonfires. (Glade does not allow fires. We think that storm kettle != fire but will have to wait for confirmation when we arrive).

We are discussing LASERING BEN WITH A BIG LASER. (er, there is context to this, honest). Marna thinks this sounds painful. It is possible that this is the point.

Some discussion about the allotment culminates in a quote from The Young Ones about eating seeds. Ben claims that he eats Seed Records artists. To keep their line-up sharp!
