Ale and wine were also potential posset ingredients, and an Hegg was a later addition - Ye Olde Medieval Reciepts were generally hot milk gone curdled with b00z3, and possets could cure *loads* of things. Eggnog (what there tharr recipe sounds like) is about the only form of posset still consumed in any quantity, and is often alcohol-free. (And *why* does my mind insist on retaining this sort of thing? I think I read a novel about one once, or something.)

Surely if it's the Box of Delights it should be Scrobbletastic...

That takes me back, Pat Troughton, a story that only touched vaguely on the notion of making any sense whatsoever, and genuinely scary too, for a kids show... Aaah, great days...

y'know, I think the first time I ever heard a posset mentioned was in the box of delights, as well. I remember being fascinated by the concept, and demanding one from my mum, who not surprisingly ignored me.

It doesn't take much prodding of google before you come across 'a piggin of fig sue'. I can't remember the last time google provided me with a phrase finer than 'a piggin of fig sue'.
