[livejournal.com profile] dogrando & I are in search of a device for the kitchen which does these things:
* plays CDs
* has DAB radio
* has a line in

Ideally something which can run off either mains or battery, & is portable-ish. We have been unable to find any device with all 3 of the things above (any 2 is doable). Have any of you lot got any suggestions for things (or places to look) that we might have missed?

tia & all that...

ETA: we were also wanting to avoid a mini-system-type thing with separate speakers; mostly for portability reasons. (sorry, forgot that bit!)

ION: I am having horrendous day & have just had to cancel osteopath because wasn't going to be able to get out of work in time. Argh.

It seems most of the portable systems don't have the line in you seek. I'g guess your best bet is to go for a slim Micro system. Something like this?

Technical Detals > Connectivity > Aux Line In

not a useful suggestion at all, as usual

the foolhardy (i.e. me) would find something that does 1 & 2 and modify it to suit 3... it's something I've done to various radio/cassette/CD units over time to allow use with guitars & the like.

it's easy enough to do as long it has a proper analogue volume control; break (not literally) away the audio connections to the 'top' of the volume control and take via either a switch, or input socket (try a 3.5mm stereo socket with break contacts). Don't forget to wave bye-bye to the guarantee if it breaks, though.

Aux input sockets do seem to be more common now - even a cheap CD (data mp3 capable) radio I saw in Currys had one...

Damned interfaces. This is the future, why can't I just jack in?

They do (for obvious iPod-related reasons), which makes it all the more frustrating that I can't seem to find something that meets our criteria. For example, Goodmans had a decent looking boombox with CD, FM, and line in, and then they brought out a new model which seemed to be identical except that: they added DAB, great; the changed the colour from silver to black, good as it'd show the kitchen grub less; and they apparently removed the line in.
