Unemployment...

Am busy being unemployed for the week. Today this means sitting on the sofa reading the weekend's backlog of LJ, unpacking from the last 2 weekends away, & awaiting a phonecall from kitty_goth in order to sort out meeting up later (since he too is unemployed this week). Rest of the week already pretty much entirely booked:
Today: meet Ben for the afternoon, spend evening staying home & being lazy with Pete.
Weds: off to Oxford for the day with B, going out drinking with my best mate Richard.
Thurs: lazing on sofa with B, date with marnameow in the evening.
Fri: cycling to Greenwich with P.

TOO BUSY. And I need to do gardening at the weekend; hopefully the weather will be tolerable.

Weekend in Cornwall was fun & mostly relaxing. Though being away from home 2 weekends running is a bit much really... I sat on the train back yesterday saying plaintively "I have a house, somewhere. I remember my house." Nice to meet the bits of kitty_goth's family that I hadn't previously met. Got a bit sunburnt on Sunday, whoops, but it's not too horrendous.

On the subject of which: have concluded a deal with Kitty which goes like this: I will give up smoking entirely (rather than just mostly, as to date), & he will start using sunscreen on a regular basis. Since neither of us fancy visiting the other in a cancer ward in later life. Anyone suggest decent sunscreen for someone who hates the stuff? I've said he could try the spray-on stuff as it feels a bit less gloopy/sticky.

In other news: Luthien-rat has a lump :-( She is currently at the vet having it removed, so thumbs crossed that she pulls through OK. We're to call back around 1500. Meep.

I use Nivea spray-on sunscreen, SPF30. This is because I had skin cancer 6 years ago and have no intentions of repeating the experience. The Nivea works very well and goes on quite easily without being overly greasy or gloopy.

What is this sunscreen of which you speak? Is it not sufficient simply not to go outside during the hours of daylight, like all good geeks members of the IT-supporting community?

Good on you both for making that deal! Aubrey and i had a similar one which involved me giving up smoking and him giving up eating meat and it's worked so far!

We did get him into a hat at Glastonbury, which was most amusing. In general, though, I don't think he's keen on 'em.

Really glad to hear you're giving up smoking.. I always did think you were seriously foolish for starting in the first place.. I mean, you of all people should know better, plus have the additional ethical points to consider as well.

Last autumn I was using Banta SPF 25 Sun Spray when I was surfing, and it worked extremely well. It lasts pretty well in the water as well as out, just in case Will and/or I can get Kitty into the sea (lazy beggar).

The factor 30 sunwipes they make for kids are good for people who don't like using the gloopy stuff. It needs to be reapplied more often, but is less icky. It may not be enough for an entire day in full sun, but is good for shorter periods. Tesco has them in the baby section; I expect other supermarkets may have them too.
