Mar. 24th, 2003 04:01 pmBusy weekend.
Friday evening I headed up to Liverpool to teach on a GIFT workshop. I still haven't got the hang of this "being grown-up" thing - I was all impressed by having to get a train & then find a taxi & take myself to a hotel, all on expenses, cos, y'know, that's like an adult thing to do. Except I am an adult, apparently, with a job & a pension & a non-student house & so forth. Bizarre.
Anyway, hotel food was dire (they microwaved their garlic bread. That sort of thing didn't ought to be allowed), but at least I wasn't paying for it. Less impressed by the very loud antics of a bunch of drunken idiots hanging around the corridor outside my room at 2am. Not good hotel.
The workshop, on the other hand, went v well. Better than the last time I did the same course, despite the fact that the kids were younger (it was game theory I was doing, although obviously not in a heavily-mathematical way). The value of experience, etc etc... A couple of them were particularly quick to catch on to the ideas, which is always fun. And they seemed generally to enjoy it, thankfully. I enjoyed it, as well, in a very-tiring sort of way. Must write down how the timing worked out before I forget - timing is the thing I have the most problems with, because I just don't have the experience to know how long something is likely to take.
Sunday, I cleaned the ratcage out (marvellously exciting stuff) & then met up with Martin , who is down from Edinburgh for a week or so. Sat around in Regents Park eating food for a bit (cos it was sunny! hurrah!), then went up to Camden to wander round there. And Martin was a bad influence & encouraged me to buy another top. Oh well. Then headed back to the flat & I cooked curry & we watched 3 1/2 episodes of Buffy & drank wine & talked the customary sort of nonsense. All of which was obviously v fine. Good weekend all round.
Storm update: seems to be on the mend, in that her fur looks healthier, and she seems more active. Still horrible great open wound nastiness, though, & the rotten creature has taken to refusing to eat her Baytril on a bit of bread, so I'm having to syringe it down her instead, which is Not Popular. She's back to the vet tomorrow, & we'll see how Claire-the-vet thinks she's doing.
