bands & gigs
Mar. 31st, 2003 01:35 pmHurrah, have Glastonbury ticket! Top stuff.
And I found this somewhere & obviously had to do it:
First gig: Madder Rose, Lotion, & Monsterland at the Astoria, April 1994.
Last: Philip Jeays at the Drill Hall, last Thursday.
Next: All Tomorrow's Parties next weekend (well, that's lots of gigs all in one, in fact).
Best: Radiohead, Glastonbury 1997. Bloody amazing. Closely followed by Ultrasound at the Point in Oxford in 1997 - none of us had heard them before, but we were all entirely blown away.
Worst: Probably the truly disastrous cod-funk band I had to sit through when judging a Battle of the Bands competition. *shudder*.
Memorable: Blur, Pulp & Supergrass at Alexandra Palace, 1994 (*3* great bands all at once! And I was right at the front, as well, having skived off school for the afternoon to get there early). The Bigger The God on several occasions (cos they're utterly lovely). The Your Song in Oxford where Rock of Travolta covered "Bad Touch" (the Marmite jar round the neck was a particularly fine effort). Philip Jeays on a barge in Battersea with a red velvet curtain at the back of the stage. Lots of others.
Sadly missed: REM - had tickets for their tour a few years back, but then the dates were cancelled due to drummer's brain haemorrhage. But! they are playing Glasto this year & I have tickets, hurrah hurrah.
Always a pleasure: TBTG; Mr Jeays; Pulp.
Best venue: I have a soft spot for the Point, not that it exists any more.
Worst venue: Never been to anywhere particularly horrendous that I can think of. Maybe I'm just not that picky.
Like to see: Hrm. Magnetic Fields. Nick Cave. Probably several others that I'll remember after posting this.
Work is being stressful as colleague is having bad morning writing report. Am unsurprised she's stressed out by it, mind, but, y'know, it makes office atmosphere a bit generally tense. Will all be over soon, as it has to get printed up & stuff.
