Insert obligatory comment about heat here. Urgh. Thank god for cycling into work - much more bearable than walking.

Showed up at london.pm for a bit on Thursday evening - long enough to eat some very nice potato wedges, discuss swarmcal, & put glitter (kindly provided by [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres on people. Shiny shiny. Then [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth & I buggered off back to St P, where we had a cold bath & watched silly films & suchlike. This was Good.

Went to the Beer Festival at Olympia on Friday evening, which was ace. Much nice beer, much nice company (Pete, Rich Mc, Mike S, BB, & assorted other folk I'd not met before), & positively *cool* as well. Also I drank beer from a brewery called Buffys, which has to be good. Rich & BB decided to come with Pete & I when we headed to BMovie. Which was, unlike Olympia, *very hot indeed*. I dithered for a while over the wearing of the bikini top, but after about 10min of sweating, & agreement by [livejournal.com profile] shadow_jess (who had been convinced by [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth & gin that she should come, hurrah) that she would join me in the stripping off, decided that the less clothing the better & it was, like, decent. Just. Spent much of the evening outside, owing to the hotness. Danced lots the last 40min or so after going inside to see what was happening & discovering that what was happening was lots of good music. I like dancing. Rich & BB sloped off early in order to get the last tube to the Oxford Tube, which was probably sensible, but I shall try to get him at least down again next month & get him to stay over (BB will likely be in Manchester again by then, which is a bit far to come).

Saturday I headed up to Stratford-upon-Avon to see my mate Mark. The train journey was truly horrible - slow, had to switch trains at Reading when ours broke down, but no proper announcement was made so we got a bit confused, un-air-conditioned... by the time I got to SuA I was distinctly weepy & getting a bit broken. Eating food & lying in front of the fan at Mark's fixed this, & then we went & sat by the river & did sod all all afternoon. I like that sort of afternoon :-) Then there was CURRY & more drinking. But less drinking than is usual on visits to Mark's - I think we were all just too hot. The schnapps came out on our return to the house, but no one was all that enthusiastic, & I went to sleep on the sofa.

Pottered around a bit more on Sunday morning - nice cooked breakfast courtesy of Cathy & Ian, another pub visit, & then train home (air-conditioned this time, thankfully). Headed up to Islington to see [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth & [livejournal.com profile] shadow_jess, who were lying around in attitudes of laziness & had failed entirely to get dressed all day. Luckily they were prepared to get dressed in search of More Curry. And then we met [livejournal.com profile] dwagon & Mat for More Beer, & classical music geekery from Kath, jess & me, & the discovery that jess & Kitty are as fond of Gilbert & Sullivan as I am. Hurrah :-)

Today I am mostly trying to remind myself to actually do some work, & wishing that I could get closer to the fan. I am already only a foot from the fan. I want air-conditioning.

I have just remembered that I intended to post this - Proms that I am intending to go to this summer:

Thu 21 Aug
Tue 26 Aug
Mon 1 Sep (the lunchtime one)
Tue 2 Sep (late night)
Thu 4 Sep (maybe - not sure)
Sun 7 Sep (afternoon)
Mon 8 Sep
Thu 11 Sep

Pete & [livejournal.com profile] shadow_jess are coming to quite a few of these, & I think [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth is as well. We'll be queuing for the Gallery tickets, which are £4 each - you can't buy in advance but have to queue, but usually it's fairly easy to get in. The Gallery is right up the top of the RAH, & has the major advantage over the Arena that there's plenty of space to sit down, & it's not at all crowded (I think for reasons of fire safety). Allegedly the acoustics are better up there, as well, though I don't know how true that is.

Anyway - anyone who wants to come along is welcome, let me know, sort of thing.
