Have spent the last few days alternating between moving house (which is bad) & having Fun (which is good, though tends to involve alcohol which makes the moving even worse, sadly).

Picked up the van on Friday night, only to discover that it was not a van but a FUCKING JUGGERNAUT. Which was a bit scary. Getting it back across town also wound up involving a scenic detour round the one-way systems of Borough/Elephant, making me somewhat later than anticipated, but never mind.

On Saturday we got up at 7.30am (with me feeling far from my customary sunny best), & iirc locked up the van again at 7.30pm. Happily had lots of assistance at various stages, including [livejournal.com profile] marnameow, [livejournal.com profile] sbp, & [livejournal.com profile] daneel_olivaw, as well as my friends Steve & Pete, so it could have been worse (well, clearly without assistance we'd have been there well into next week). Then there was new-house champagne all round! And pizza! And then rushing around to get ready for the Fun! (see below).

The intention was to do lots of unpacking on Sunday, but this was kind of scuppered by Camden-going & then going round Marna's. Though we did get quite a bit of the living-room sorted. Yesterday I had the day off work so spent the entire day taking things out of boxes, with a brief interruption at midday for me to burst into tears in a combination of emotional hangover (after 3 days of drinking, y'see) & utter despair at the lack of impact made on the box-pile. But I spoke sternly to myself & told myself to stop being silly, which worked a bit. And then I went & got my hair cut (as I've been intending to do for about a month now), which cheered me up enormously, as it is nice to be able to walk past a mirror without wincing.

Need to buy more furniture now (bookcases, table for study, etc), but most of the unpacking is done. It is still a nice house, & the garden is clearly ace.

But in-between the moving trauma, there was fun stuff. Went to the Crown in Angel with [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth on Friday - v fine evening. Even if I did drink 5 or so pints rather than the couple that I initially intended; not to mention the port back at Kitty's. Whoops. Thankfully I remembered to drink lots of water once I got back to Paddington, so at least I was functional in the morning.

Saturday night, after champagne & pizza consumption (& clothes-trauma, worsened by the fact that all my clothes were in suitcases, prior to being in a big pile on the bed - cheers to [livejournal.com profile] daneel_olivaw for assisting with sartorial decision-making, & updating on gossip meanwhile :-) ), we all headed off for Stay Beautiful. Picked up [livejournal.com profile] j4, [livejournal.com profile] lnr, [livejournal.com profile] hoiho, [livejournal.com profile] beingjdc, J-P, & Kate en route, then went & jumped up & down a lot to good music. Hurrah. Drinks were way too expensive, mind. And admittedly by the time it finished I was bloody knackered & had serious backache (think I pulled something doing the moving). But it was good anyway, & muchly enjoyable. Due to the vast swathes of people going back to Bermondsey (Bermondsey is the New Islington, you know. Possibly) we were able to share taxis, though, rather than nightbussing. Always a good thing.

Was kind of intending not to go Camden-shopping on Sunday morning, but failed miserably. I did, however, succeed in not spending any money (well, other than on lunch, which doesn't count), mainly because I couldn't find any sufficiently nice shoes, they didn't have my size in the corset I wanted, & everything I tried on in the shop with the nice Chinese dresses was too small or weirdly cut. Bah. They might have the corset in my size next week, though, when I'm taking my mum shopping in Camden, so I have to decide whether I take my mother, sister, & cousin into Fairygothmother to help me buy a corset. Hmm. Maybe not. Other people bought stuff, though, so I got vicarious shopping. And then was sensible & had orange juice rather than beer in the Dev, before going homewards for unpacking.

And then after a couple of hours dropped round to [livejournal.com profile] marnameow's, for she had kindly offered to cook us dinner. Which was lovely, & then there was wine as well, & general wittering, & then somehow it was midnight & too late to do any more unpacking.

There was no fun yesterday, just unpacking. Other than the haircut, anyway, which is not in itself fun, merely has good effects. Also a random stranger on the street complimented me as I was on my way back home post-hairdresser, which was nice (yes, I am vain. so sue me).

Back at work now, talking about greyhounds & trying to get work done & not just revel in the connectivity by writing lots of emails. Um.
