Birthday!

Yesterday assorted lovely people came round for cocktails in black tie to celebrate my advancing age. There are photos! If anyone wants to offer fix the redeye on the two of me I would be v grateful (full-size version is available). Pete & Marna made very very nice food indeed, there was quite a lot of champagne (some in cocktail form) and cocktails, and much entertaining conversation. Everyone looked absolutely splendid; possibly because everyone is absolutely splendid. Awesomeness.

Today there has been tidying-up, and the discovery that the toilet (the ballcock valve broke last night) is not fixable & we are probably going to have to get a new one put in. For the moment we have an exciting new overflow-based water feature outside the front door.

So far I like being 30. Despite plumbing crisis.

ETA: Plumbing crisis temporarily fixed by inserting a pin in the very small valve hole from which the water emerges. Truly I am v butch. We will have to use the watering can for flushing purposes until an actual professional arrives. (I am a bit worried that the water pressure will suddenly expel the pin at high speed but I suppose it'll be no worse than the current situation.)

black tie in a former council flat: very neo-socialist! looks like the new labour project is heading towards financial ruin though. brown ale may yet come back into fashion. one day you may have to get on that bike of yours to find work so i suppose you may be better placed than most. but then aren't the apparatchiks always better placed when the shit hits the fan? here's hoping most of the cabinet are buy-to-letters.....
