Drive-by post: recommend me some music!

Just back from Climate Camp. Have large to-do list, but also many plans. And a cold (which may just be hay-related irritation: much of camp furniture was constructed largely or wholly from haybales, and it was v windy).

I'm having a Spinal Tap moment! What, you don't like free jazz? :-)

I should probably make a post about fun things I've been enjoying of late. Some thoughts off the top of my head:

- still loving PJ Harvey & John Parish album 'A Woman A Man Walked By'.
- have been listening to Little Boots album (bought solely because of Phil Oakey) over and over, am amazed at how good it is but then, I do like some shiny synth-pop
- gloomy 'post-rock' Italian band Giardini Di Miro album 'Dividing Opinions', which I got for £1.99 on Oxfam! Bargain.
- 2 cd collection 'An England Story' (a history of British MCs) has some absolutely cracking tracks on it, particularly the stuff with Est'elle, Warrior Queen, Doctor & Davinche, Skibadee and the lovely Roots Manuva. I was quite excited to find it in the library, and [livejournal.com profile] ultraruby & [livejournal.com profile] dr_f_dellamorte assured me it was tip-top. They were right!
- Sieben aka Matt Howden does absolutely amazing solo fiddle-based 'alternative' dark folky stuff. I'm seen him live a couple of times now and he blows me away.
- the Mastodon 'Crack The Skye' album is rather fun...
- I'm listening to loads of Grace Jones right now, her recent album 'Hurricane' along with a lot of the older tracks. She never gets old.
- do you already have Ladytron's 'Velocifero'? That's STILL on my playlist, even after so long. I have to stop myself from listening to it so I don't get obsessed, and yes, that's 2 years on, nearly?

There's probably loads more, but that'll do for starters, right? I can play any or all these things at you if we happen to be in the same vicinity!

Eric Dolphy's "Out To Lunch" is pretty good. Ornette Coleman's not bad either.
