I have a mildly sore throat, a sniffle, and an itchy nose (in that way it itches when you're sore-throat-ish and sniffly). Any recommendations for heading the Unwell off at the pass? Other than vit C, zinc, & 'sitting on the sofa a bit', all of which are already well in hand. (Well; I have to go down to Bromley this afternoon but until then everything I need to do can be done from underneath a blanket.)

ION: Bohemian Rhapsody as interpreted by the Muppets, for anyone who hasn't yet encountered this. Seriously awesome.

IOON: going to The Wave in 10 days? Want something to do afterwards? Climate Camp London will be occupying a space somewhere in Central London for the rest of the weekend. More details to follow, but vegan cake will feature alongside the message to government that "business as usual" is not enough to stop climate change.

Plus if you've ever thought that you might like to be a legal observer, we are running not one but TWO training sessions in the next 10 days: one on Sun 29th Nov 3pm-5pm, one on Fri 4th Dec 7pm-9pm, both at LARC. Lovely hi-viz vests, notebooks, and lots of fascinating legal info provided.

I was struck down by cold yesterday, and am finding that decongestants, paracetamol and hot squash are keeping me moderately human. I always take them separately rather than using things like lemsip, because then you can still have soothing hot drinks even when you've maxed out your dose of the other drugs. Maybe you don't need the painkillers, but the decongestants might help.

Hope you get well soon!

Hmm, these definitely claim to clear the sinuses and not just the nose. Definitely prefer to take tablets than squirt stuff up nose: that does just dry things out horribly, where the tablets for me tend to make me less bunged up, if not actually stopping the nose from running. But fair enough, I think it's perfectly reasonable to prefer some approaches to others.

Strepsils or similar for the scratchy throat?

I agree with you about not killing off the snot or fever unless it gets ridiculous (or you need to be compos mentis) but one thing I've found helpful is that Vicks First Defense nasal spray stuff. It's evil and you need to be Really Careful not to inhale as you squirt it up your nose (owie), but it does seem to Do Something to make all the germs go grrrrrk and keel over. (Also occasionally if I'm feeling congested it helps dislodge piles of gunk, so after initial increased discomfort I actually feel a lot better.)

But if you forget and leave it at home while you're at work all day, the cold comes back. Said the voice of experience.

Colds> I tend to find very gentle exercise works well (I use pilates), especially with aching joints that have been in the same position for too long...
