Dreamwidth has been having problems with people hassling them as a service (details, for obvious reasons, not released). PayPal, when contacting by the trolls, demanded that DW take down perfectly legal content. Instead of doing this, DW is sticking by their Guiding Principles & is in the process of switching merchant providers (not a trivial thing to do). Now, *this* is the sort of reaction I want to see from a journal service.

I've been crossposting (I love the automagic crossposter) for ages; at present I'm still hanging on for reading-page interoperability before I jump ship altogether, but I'll be letting my LJ paid account lapse soon. Partly because I like DW, and partly because the site is so much easier to use (& keeps getting better!).

I've got DW invites available if anyone wants to come over & try it out.

Reading-page interoperability would be awesome :)

I asked about it a few months back and got a slightly vague comment about needing to sort out privacy issues: has it moved on since then? The comments on Bugzilla seem to be stuck at the same point.

I'm really looking forward to it!

And right now is probably not a good time to be bothering people about it :)

Absolutely!

I'm commenting here rather than there, since people over there probably already know, but I was particularly impressed that they said basically "we don't need more donations over this, if you have spare cash give it to Haiti instead".

I'll stick with openID myself, at least for now, since I'm an LJ permanent member.

At some point my blog-energy will be up to updating my 'read_friends' link from lj to dw...but not today.

I *think* I'm being reticent because all the "switch to DW!" posts I see seem to be a version of 'if there wasn't an alternative then I'd work around this limitation but because there is then I'll use this particular issue which is not *the* issue but close enough as a sticking point'. Which...bleh, whatever. I'm a rubbish blogger anyway.

...which *isn't* to say your point about LJ vs. DW isn't a good point in itself! Forgot to add that part xx
