1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Had a story professionally accepted (publication is taking a while, mind). Finished the first draft of a novel. Went on holiday with a dog in tow (twice). Actually visibly progressed at a physical sport thing (climbing), and climbed V3 :) (only once! But V2 more often.)

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I have a 101 things list, but it's progressing slowly this time. I had some aims for this year, which have largely happened (or at least I'm happy enough with my progress). I don't really do NY resolutions these days.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Several! Most notably Pete and Mike (both friends from university) both now have daughters, both of whom are lovely. And, of course, [livejournal.com profile] angelmine got pregnant :)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Uncle Ian, which I'm still a bit in shock about. Finlay, on New Year's Day.

5. What countries did you visit?
France and Spain (with Pete in February). Ireland (v briefly) and N Ireland (if that counts) with doop. Scotland (also probably doesn't count).

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More cash. More time (although I only lacked this for the last couple of months of 2010, really, and I've mostly fixed the problem already. Less future uncertainty. More focus.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
We got Sidney on Feb 15.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
No idea. Selling that story, probably.

9. What was your biggest failure?
A failed negotiation; or rather, a failure to find middle ground, although I'm not sure the middle ground was there to be found, unfortunately. (or not by me; perhaps others will. I still feel that my bit failed.)

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Tripped over Sid and broke my thumb. Thankfully it is pretty much entirely recovered now.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
MY IPAD. BEST THING EVER.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
[livejournal.com profile] dogrando, [livejournal.com profile] uon, & [livejournal.com profile] marnameow, as ever. Maia, who continues to rock. [livejournal.com profile] angelmine. The Climate Camp 2010 site crew.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The cops at the various student protests. Everyone who voted Tory. All the people who think that "supporting Wikileaks" is a justification for rape apologism.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Basic expenses; festivals.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Sunshine at Glastonbury! My iPad.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
No idea.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier. And definitely clearer in myself.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter. Insufficient cycling, too much sugar (makes me grumpy, too)"
iii. richer or poorer? Slightly richer, I think, but in savings rather than in day-to-day affordability.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. Activism. Socialising.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being tired & irritable; although I think I've done that less this year than last. Mostly I don't want to change the ways I spend my time, which is part of why there are things I would like to do more of but don't -- what would I cut out?

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
As per, spent it in B-Mo with Pete, doop, Marna, & Sean. Mum, Dad, & Wendy came round on Boxing Day, and then there was more food at Marna's in the evening.

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
No. I love Sidney though, and I only met her this year!

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Glee.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Don't think so.

25. What was the best book you read?
The best book I am reading is the 1910 Girls Own annual (Xmas present from Pete, who rocks). Other than that, can't remember. Just finished a Stella Duffy book which I v much enjoyed.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I saw Seize the Day at Glastonbury & loved them, does that count? Otherwise, can't remember.

27. What did you want and get?
An iPad. The temporary job with CTUK. To go climbing regularly. A climbing harness. Someone to wash my bike for me for Xmas (thank you doop :) )

28. What did you want and not get?
Still no teleporter. More certainty about what's happening next year. More freelance gigs.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?
3D TRON IMAX LEGEND TRON right now, but the circumstances there were very special. Can't remember seeing many films, though I enjoyed Harry Potter 7 pt 1, too.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 32, and I had a party here, and then went to dinner at Sketch with Pete, which was lovely.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not sure there is anything much, in fact.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Still the young-person's trousers, and also the layers. And scarfs.

33. What kept you sane?
As always: Marna, Pete, & doop. Climbing. Writing. Irrational and limitless self-belief. Thinking hard about things and acting on the thoughts. The ongoing attempt to make the external and the internal match up. Taking time off/time to myself when necessary.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
No one?

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Climate change & cuts.

36. Who did you miss?
Daniel and Maia.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Sidney? Not sure I met many new human people. Mel.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010
You are responsible for your own stuff. And so is everyone else for theirs.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year
Can't right now; will consider the matter.

40. Did you enjoy this year?
Yes.

I strongly believe in "innocent until proven guilty" and in this case the man has not even been charged never mind anything proven.

Aye -- it's a problem when a case is sufficiently famous that a lot of the claims and counter claims get to press early and those claims are so varied that a wide variety of interpretations of events are possible depending who you wish to believe.

Mmm really enjoyed reading this snapshot of your year, and am quite a bit mushy reading #36 which I wasn't expecting (it's not the answer which was unexpected just the whole package of question+answer coming suddenly and making my tummy flip) xxxx
