Got in early this morning (well, just before 9) in order to get going on the vast quantities of work I have today. Entered office to discover vile & horrible stench. A cursory examination revealed this to be emanating from the carpet. The radiator burst earlier in the week, you see, & whilst the plumbers are now fixing this, it was clearly too late for the carpet, which got drenched. Hence the smell.

So, Mike decreed that it all had to come up. We were expecting this to be an easy job, cos of the removable carpet tiles. Sadly, it transpired that underneath the carpet tiles was - another carpet. Also wet. So that had to come up as well, which was significantly more work. An hour & a half later, we had an office floor which is half carpeted (the dry half) & half concrete with peculiar orange stuff on it. With a bit of luck, this might speed up the redecoration that's been promised since I started working here.

So off I went back to my desk to start on the Work. But no; the server/net connection broke, & in the absence of our IT person, as resident geek-type I get to fill in. Went through the customary list: wiggle hub power lead around till it works properly (had to tape it down, in the end - we *so* need a new one), prod at various connections, reset router, prod around some more... After a while the server started working again, but still no net connection. Phoned BT, to no avail, as what I *hadn't* been left with was any of the security info on the account, & they can't do anything without it, apparently. Prodded at connections a bit more. Return of net connection for no apparent reason, but let us be Duly Thankful anyway.

*so*. It's all been a bit stressful, & now I have a draft policy on greyhounds to construct, & the bloody info mail to do, all before 5. (obviously, this means I should be doing it, not posting to lj. Whoops).
