Had dinner last night with kitty_goth & his friend Elizabeth, at La Porchetta. Mmm pizza. Lots of pizza. Hadn't met Elizabeth before - she turned out to be very nice, but is sadly back off to Boston next week. Then on to the Silver Springs gig, which was top fun. Some really good songs - thoroughly enjoyed it. Hurrah for gigs.

Today I have mostly been being a bit useless, although I did get the info mail done, so that's my main Friday job sorted, anyway. Very shortly am off to Oxford to see Richard, hurrah. I foresee BOOZE, & also more BOOZE.

Which reminds me: I have been attempting to keep track of BOOZE consumption this week. So:
Mon - 2 glasses of wine (2 units)
Tues - bottle of Pride (2.5units, apparently)
Wed - half of Pride (1 unit)
Thu - 1.5 pints Pride, half bottle of wine, vodka & coke (7 units)
So that's 12.5 units, so far. Call it 13 to account for the fact that a half of Pride is a bit more than one unit. Cor. That's actually more than I would have thought, given that I thought I'd had a fairly restrained week. And means that if I get through more than 4 pints in the next 2 nights I'm over the recommended 21unit limit. Hmm.

Alas, I have an OU assignment to get done this weekend (since I'm going to the Oakdale and then to Rathaus at the Water Rats on the 28th, so will be fit for nothing on the 29th.)

I think you might be underestimating a tad. A 12% ABV bottle of wine is usually 9 (0.12 * 75) units. Also, pub/restaurant glasses are never 125ml anymore, so a glass is usually more than 1/6th of that. Pride is 2.33 units per pint in pubs and about 2.35 per bottle (smaller bottle, stronger beer). So I make that 3(wine) + 2.35(pride bottle) + 1.16(pride half) + 3.49(pride pint and half) + 4.5(half bottle wine) + 0.94(vodka) = 15.44 (assuming your wine glasses were 1/6 of a bottle each)

Dept of Health guidelines now say 3-4 units per day for men, 2-3 per day for women, & that these limits apply whether you drink daily or only once a week. So that works out at 14-21 for women per week, & 21-28 for men per week.

Last night (2 pints, then 4 or 5 decent-sized vodkas at Rich's) I think took me way past my weekly limit, never mind daily...

If I start from Sunday, then this week I've kept to the limit pretty well. But then again I was ill. So far 2 pints and 2 bottles of Japanese beer at Infinity on Wednesday. I don't want to know how much I drank on Saturday. Or how much I will drink tomorrow. Wouldn't it be easier if Saturdays were just discounted from the whole unit-measuring thing altogether?

Oh and yes indeed, SB here I come. Because I got Paid today. Money! Yay!

so you seem to stick to one type of beer. i can't blame you given that most of the draught beer they have in pubs in england is weak (designed that way so the working man could knock a good few back each day). it might surprise you to learn that the beer in oregon is about as good as it gets. this week i've had old lompoc c-note (you can really taste the hops :)), anchor steam, mc tarnahan's oak aged ipa and spaten oktoberfest. this stuff certainly beats banks's bitter whatever noddy holder might claim to the contrary. just ask courtney taylor, my fact checking cuz.
