Phones...

The flap on my Treo180 finally broke yesterday (sob). I was kind of expecting this after the same thing happened to [livejournal.com profile] ciphergoth. Net result: still usable as PDA (although having to hold it together with a rubber band is irritating), no use at all as phone, & have switched SIM to my spare Nokia.

Investigating the Treo600 on Orange, it transpires that the phone costs £99.99, and a 120min plan with 250 free texts, bought online, costs £25/month. My current deal with TMobile is 100 min & 200 texts for £31/month. Switching would therefore save me £72 in a year, thus meaning that the *actual* cost of the phone, over the 12 month obligatory contract, would be £28. Which is not very much at all...

Bad Juliet. No biscuit. No new phones. Unless Dabs give me CASH back for the 180 being broken (which I have emailed them about, as it's still under warranty), in which case I will be switching to Orange with enormous rapidity.

Same happened with my one as well - its why I've now got the Treo 600 which I also got from Orange.

Oooh, did they Just Break, or was an accident involved? (Now worried about my 270, if I ever get it back from PalmOne with a fixed backlight).

Just broke when I opened it one day; from the looks of things it was a stress fracture of the plastic. However I'm not sure if it was the plastic itself going after lots of use (had mine for about a year and a half) or if it was something within the hinge sticking a bit too much. Its hard to tell as the spring within the hinge is quite powerful.

At least the Treo 600 doesn't have this design (although I've now got mine in a soft cover to protect the screen) and the cables I got to hook up the Treo 180 to my machine worked fine with the Treo 600 - not entirely unsurprising since they both have the same pinout on the external connector.

I've seen mumblings about a revamping of the PalmOne range including the Treo 600, so if you can hold your horses until the end of the month (IIRC)... :-)

Time passes, I'm afraid. Looks like it was Octoberish (http://www.brighthand.com/article/Treo_600_Launched_in_Europe), so 6 months ago :-)

Just tried to find the aforementioned rumour - I think I saw it on one of the tech news sites I check daily for work - but no sign of it now, sorry.

There seem to be mentions of a Treo 610 (http://www.brighthand.com/article/RumorMill_palmOne_Preparing_Treo_610) about. The lack of bluetooth was a bit of a put-off for me, so it would be nice if indeed it has it.
