Now that Converse (who used to be reasonably OK, in terms of working conditions etc) have been bought out by Nike (who are emphatically not), where are liberal types to go for their ethical trainers?

No Sweat Apparel, that's where. Specifically, their nice trainers are here. Unfortunately it's only the US side of things that carries them currently (though No Sweat UK has nice Tshirts & whatnot available), but they only charge $5 shipping to the UK. Giving you a grand total of $40 for a nice union-made pair of trainers (info on wages/benefits paid to workers on the shoe link above if you're interested).

We've also contacted them and apparently they are planning to expand the range in the future, to include high-tops & different colours, because sales are going pretty well. Hurrah. Go buy shoes!

Right, must get dressed & sod off to Whitby now. Have a good weekend...

However I still want Saucony and Tigers and for some reason I crave a large white soled sk8r twat style trainer, what the NUTS that is all about I have no idea. DUDE I so do NOT need encouragement to buy shoes right now!!

Ooh, sounds good. I too shall continue wearing my Converse (I do have three pairs, after all), but seeing as these No Sweat ones are deliberately "a spitting image" of them, then when I next come to buy a pair it'll be the first place I look if they've expanded their range to high-tops by then.

i'm all for nike. they are based in portland and employ a lot of people here. what exactly is your beef with them?
