juliet: Decorating stepladder and bare wall (decorating)
[personal profile] juliet

Once again, we have Free Stuff to give away. Needs to be collected from our place (in Bermondsey), before Sunday 6th Feb or it's going to the tip.

  • Speaker stands x 2. Lots of sand in the bottom of 'em, but if you didn't want to carry the sand you could tip it down the chute upstairs & just take the stands. The sand improves the sound quality, though, I think.
  • DVD player - not working very well, but [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth reckons it just needs the laser replacing.
  • Board game 'Cranium'. Someone who has played it reckons it's not much cop, but I have no idea as I've never touched it (will go to charity shop if unclaimed).

Any takers?

In other Exciting House News: the MASSIVE SOFA has arrived (it is large enough for Pete to lie down on it full-length & his toes & head don't touch the ends), and the kitchen & hall floors have been put down (lovely shiny Marmoleum), and the carpets upstairs are going down next week.

What sort of size, shape, and colour are the speaker stands?
(I've still got a shredder for you)

What are the dimensions of the bit on top where the speaker sits (I'm trying to work out if these are meant for giant speakers of auditory doom or small speakers like I've got)?

Ah, that sounds just right for me. Could I have them, please?
I could come and get them on Sunday afternoon if that would be convenient?

Where do you live, exactly, again? I remember the general area, but I forget the precise address.
Feel free to email me if you don't want to tell the whole of the Internet.

What sort of speakers do you have now?

These, in black. And very nice they are, too (despite all the people who are sniffy about Mordaunt Short).

I just wish international shipping was cheaper, so I could bring my pair of these over from Adelaide. :(

I must remember to listen to the M-S's next time I'm at yours - they look good.

Which reminds me... On a related topic: ISTR that you bought a DAB radio some time back: what was it, and is it any good?

Dunno which one they bought, but as a standalone the Pure Evoke 2 sounds really nice. The speakers are actually reflexed via a little port into the bottom of the case, and the sound is really good - nearly as good at filling a room as the Bose Wave, and a hell of a lot cheaper. It's not cheap, but the bang for the buck is quite reasonable.

Mmm, but I already have a separates system which is vaguely comparable to Pete's (though it's probably a notch or two below in quality), so it seems a shame not to have something which integrates with that.

Ah, I see, yes, you wouldn't want the Evoke 2 then.

Cambridge Audio DAB 300 (only black, 'cos everything else in the stack is). And I'm happy with it, yes. Sounds nice, easy to use, tunes perfectly without having to faff about with the aerial.

Cheers for that - will check it out.

Needless to say, I got it a fair bit under TSP from Richer Sounds (£120 down from £150).

I gather there's not much point in spending a lot more than that, audiowise, as the main failings are down to the medium rather than the tuner.

I bet you wish you'd imposed a timescale on the minidisc machine...

I'm due to be drinking in London Bridge Saturday (5th!) afternoon. Anyone around then?
