Next time I bitch about how cycling is being more difficult, can someone remind me to pump my damn tyres up? kthxbye

This is not actually as daft as it sounds; we have reasonably recently acquired a stand-up type pump, with a PSI gauge, the use of which this morning led me to discover that what I had hitherto thought of as 'reasonably hard' was in fact right at the bottom end of the recommended range for the tyres. Couldn't get it anywhere close to the top end (though I was in a hurry; I may try again at the weekend), but it made a big difference to how easy it was to move the damn thing along the road.

In other news: had a splendid date with ergotia on Tuesday; stayed in all on my own doing assorted things yesterday (making a Mac-bag for Ben, putting more of my US photos together, playing with the rats, that sort of thing); over at St P this evening (Ben is currently cooking dinner, mmm food); & off to Ain't Nothin' But (blues bar in Soho) tomorrow evening. Excellent stuff. Work also going pretty well atm. Good things all round.

a Mac-bag

Would that be a Mac Mini bag, or a laptop one? I've been ogling the Tom Bihn (http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0351) bag, but I'd be curious to know how yours turns out, if indeed you're making one :)

A laptop bag - but it's more of a case than a bag per se. It won't have handles; it's just to wrap the thing in to stop it from getting scratched. For my own, I use a sewn-together tea-towel :-) but this is a belated Xmas present for the boy, using some left over black stretchy thickish stuff I have around the place.

Ah, much tyre-deflation sympathy. One day I wondered why it took me an hour and 15 minutes to cycle to work when normally it takes me 45. Then I actually looked at the back tyre and the metal rim was almost on the ground. Doh!

Hmm. Perhaps I should get a new pump - or perhaps a new inner tube for my front tire. The valve on it is rather dodgy.

If it's regularly deflating, even a bit, then it'd be well worth it IMO. I was amazed at the difference having really solid tyres made. (makes sense really, of course - the harder & therefore rounder they are, the less tyre surface is in contact with the road, & therefore the less friction is there to battle against. But I hadn't really thought about it that hard :-) ). I intend to start pumping them up regularly on Sundays, rather than waiting till I notice flatness.
