juliet: My old PowerBook in pieces all over the desk (tech mac insides)
[personal profile] juliet
I have just spent about 3 hrs taking my Powerbook apart & putting it back together again, for the purposes of replacing its CD/DVD drive. A very very large number of small screws were involved. To my joy, not only did it still boot & talk to the internet & so forth when I put it back together, but it now actually takes in, plays, & ejects CDs again. Hurrah.

I do have 2 screws left over, due to a lower-down cable getting in the way a couple of layers up, & to a misplaced screw at a lower level, but everything seems pretty secure so I'm not sodding taking it apart again.

I need a tech icon. I should have taken a photo when the Mac had its insides all over the desk (I did, on the phone, but the resolution is of course rubbish. I may try to upload it anyway
Update: see userpic. Or bigger version).

I'm sure it'd do for a 100x100 icon. We want Mac gore!

There was a chap my dad worked with when he was a mainframe service engineer whose nickname was "two-screws" cos he always had them leftover...

2 screws left over isn't so bad - it's when you get it nearly back together and realise you're 2 screws short and are not 100% sure they've just rolled onto the floor...
