marnameow, I am not drowned & therefore clearly not a duffer. Hurrah. Sailing was much fun, although I am dubious as to whether it was good or bad for my cold (cold was significantly improved this morning otherwise might have had to ditch sailing). It was really very chilly out, although you stopped noticing it once actually in the boat (a Wayfarer, if you're interested).
The customary practical-skill learning curve was observed, viz:
- Watch skill being demonstrated, think "OK, yes, I get that".
- Attempt to do it yourself. Panic. Screw up. Repeat numerous times (in this case accompanied by very real concern re. falling in the water. It really was very chilly out.).
- Begin to get the hang of it. Think "cool, I can actually do this!".
- New aspect is introduced. Screw up again. Realise that in fact there is rather more to it than anticipated during the previous stage.
- Repeat.
