and more bicycling
Aug. 22nd, 2007 02:39 pmAnd in more cycling news: my friend Charlotte, who is currently riding PBP, has just clocked in at Brest - halfway! Along with a whole bunch of other folk I know (& some who were at Brest earlier this morning & are already on their way home).
Allez allez!
(OK I will stop posting now...)
Link for anyone interested in the progress of the 61 ACF Magnifiques as they ride through wind, rain, etc to cover 1200k in 90 hrs - apparently the weather is about as vile as it is here, & Charlotte has said it's "harder than the Brian Chapman". Bloody hell. I guess at least the weather was nice for the BC... (she also said this morning around 8am that she hadn't slept in 48 hrs. I am suddenly glad I'm not there...)
They started Monday 10pm (apart from a handful who took the 84hr start at Tuesday 4am); they need to finish by Friday 4pm.
We've had 2 DNFs so far - one due to illness, one unknown. Plus one major mechanical, but he's got it fixed & is plugging on & well within time.
I am kind of sad I didn't make it. 2011!

Date: 2007-08-22 01:56 pm (UTC)I do not know Swiss Hat but I am bloody impressed! He did go for the "vedette" start, so was obviously expecting to be fast, but still...
Liz is doing an absolutely storming job as support, from the sound of it - was up till 6am last night sorting out food, naps, drop bags (so change of wet clothes...), etc etc for the ACFers as they came through Loudeac. She deserves a damn medal too! The text I got from Charlotte says "Liz is an angel & I owe her the ride!".
