Super Randonneur
Oct. 1st, 2007 12:44 pmSo, last May I tried to ride 600k and packed at 470k; this weekend I had another go.
And got in last night with 5 min to spare!
Ride report to follow, but I am feeling very pleased with myself (& also rather like I've been beated up - everything aches, & I'm exhausted). I rode much stronger than I expected myself to, which is always nice. Also I didn't cry once, which is rare :)
So that's my SR (Super Randonneur) series (200k, 300k, 400k, 600k) in my first year of audaxing.
Everyone else finished too: Liz got her first SR, as well (with a knee injury that would have undoubtedly caused me to pack - I am v impressed!) & Charlotte finished on fixed. Rich finished his first 600k, Matt (who was riding 2 200s rather than a 600) finished fine, & obv Steve A got in to continue his epic stab at the points record :-)

Date: 2007-10-01 12:35 pm (UTC)There's also a thing called Randonneur Round The Year, which is one ride per month of 200k+ (within time limits) for 12 months. I might do that, because it's a way of getting myself out on the bike. I *like* riding, but it's sometimes difficult to make the time to get out there. I've kind of started it twice already but always missed a month for various reasons.
[0] Basically: I don't like the time-limit-chasing aspect of the longer rides, because if you're my speed i.e. slow, you spend the first day trying to get enough time in hand for sleep - 2 hrs this time, which is v good for me! - & the second day being knackered & chasing the time due to that. 200s is OK because I know I can fairly comfortably get round a 200k within time & with enough time for food stops etc.

Date: 2007-10-03 06:52 pm (UTC)Then I remembered the trains. Or more importantly the lack of trains, and the fact they don't take bikes on rail replacement buses. I don't think another 30 miles round trip on top is the best thing to add to a first 100k.
Apparently it's not just September and October either, there are no trains into Cambridge at weekends until *Christmas*. *sigh*
