So, last May I tried to ride 600k and packed at 470k; this weekend I had another go.

And got in last night with 5 min to spare!

Ride report to follow, but I am feeling very pleased with myself (& also rather like I've been beated up - everything aches, & I'm exhausted). I rode much stronger than I expected myself to, which is always nice. Also I didn't cry once, which is rare :)

So that's my SR (Super Randonneur) series (200k, 300k, 400k, 600k) in my first year of audaxing.

Everyone else finished too: Liz got her first SR, as well (with a knee injury that would have undoubtedly caused me to pack - I am v impressed!) & Charlotte finished on fixed. Rich finished his first 600k, Matt (who was riding 2 200s rather than a 600) finished fine, & obv Steve A got in to continue his epic stab at the points record :-)

Super is the word! I like to think that my dream (about you winning the race by cleverly working out that cycling downhill all the way would be faster than everyone else's uphill plan) came partially true :)

I... wow. I am Impressed.

Does the series stop at 600k, or does it just keep going up forever?

Heck, you can get a medal for a 50k if you're that way inclined.

Excellent! I'm not sure I believe you about not doing more overnights though...

I keep intending to do a 200, but they are all at the weekend, and weekends are never free :-(

Oh dear, I have been looking at possible 100ks near me now. 28th October starting from Stevenage is almost tempting. I think I need to resist until next year and start when it's a bit warmer.

Well, I was proposing giving it a go just on the hybrid, and I thought you had something similar. I'll save buying a faster bike til I know I want to ride fast :-)

I've got a three-speed heavy dutch town bike, perfect for Cambridge but not really suited to going any significant distance on.

Damn, you very very nearly had me convinced there.

Then I remembered the trains. Or more importantly the lack of trains, and the fact they don't take bikes on rail replacement buses. I don't think another 30 miles round trip on top is the best thing to add to a first 100k.

Apparently it's not just September and October either, there are no trains into Cambridge at weekends until *Christmas*. *sigh*
