1. What's the best gig you've ever been to? And what makes a good gig? People there, venue, sound and lighting, other stuff?
I can give you a top three: Radiohead at Glastonbury 1997, REM at Glastonbury 2003, Ultrasound at the Point Oxford 1997. Closely followed by Pulp & Blur at Alexandra Palace in 1995. Hrm, & actually Aphex at ATP 2003 is competing up at the top end (though I think that's partly cheated :-) ).

People there can be part of it - it's certainly part of the two Glastonbury gigs. There are venues I hate, & venues I like (I was very fond of the Point), but a good band (on a good day) can overcome a bad venue. Sound: yeah, well, if the sound's too shocking then you're screwed, cos you can't *hear* the damn band, but I'm fairly forgiving of that. Lighting: don't give a stuff, really. It's pretty, but it's not important. The thing is, all of the surroundings are things that can make or break an *average* gig. The best gigs I've been to have been so far above average that it doesn't matter.

What, for me, really makes a great gig is that it generates - euphoria is one of the best words. That feeling of being blown away by the sheer amazingness of the whole thing. When it's *so good* that you feel that you can't breathe. You leave feeling elated, ecstatic, like you've seen something that completes part of you. That's a good gig. This is why the people there can be important - because (assuming they felt the same way) you can *share* that feeling, & it's a fantastic feeling.

2. We should *clearly* go for Dinner and Theatre again soon. What should we go to see, and where should we go for dinner first?
Hurrah for dinner and theatre!

If Cats was still on... or indeed *any* of the ALW musicals. Hrm. We could always go see When Harry Met Sally, with Alyson Hannigan in :-) (though apparently she keeps her kit on throughout. Boo). Maybe have a look at what's on at the National atm, & be all cultured? Or go to one of those teeny little theatres dotted around London above pubs & such.
Dinner - well, tbh I do really like the HK Diner! But I don't know that many places to eat in central London, really, so would be open to suggestion. The Gourmet Pizza place down the river from the National is nice (& it's entirely possible & not even a rush to get through before 1930); I'd actually really like to go to the restaurant in the National itself.

3. What pet would you most like to have, apart from ratties and doggies? And why?
*Apart* from ratties and doggies? Hrm. If I were able to give them a proper environment, MEERKATS! Cos they're cute & gorgeous :-) I've contemplated having a ferret, before (because they're bright, and friendly, & generally rat-like), but they're given to chewing *everything in sight* and can be quite a handful, so I'd have to think carefully.

4. If you were a Real Actual American (and thus entitled to do 'merkin voting stuff) what would you be registered as a supporter/member/thingie of? And who would you be voting for in the presidential choosings of candidates, and then the election? And why?
This is where I guiltily admit that I don't pay as much attention to US politics as I should. I would doubtless register as a Democrat (which doesn't, I assume, prevent you from campaigning etc from other more left-wing groups? But I'd want to be able to vote in the primaries). I suspect that I'd have voted for Dean. Election - um. Last time, I think I'd have voted for whatsit (er, mind gone blank. Thingy. Used to campaign on car safety & stuff. Christ, I am going senile *already*), probably. This time, I would almost certainly vote for Whichever The Fuck Democrat They Put Up, because *anything* is better than Bush. Really. *Really*. However, if I were an American voter, I would pay more damn attention & read manifestos & whatnot.

5. You have a found a bottle with a genie in. So you get the traditional three wishes. What are they? (remembering, of course, the backfiring of wishes in so many stories, so you probably want to be careful what you wish for....)
ARGH. I would be paralysed with indecision, that's what. See, I'd like to wish for something like world peace, but that's the sort of thing that you *can't* just plonk in place, it would all fall apart again. People need to get there themselves. Maybe I could wish that they'd get there a bit *quicker*. Encourage long-term rather than short-term thinking, that kind of thing. But it's all a bit too wooly for a proper wish. Like you can't wish for happiness, because part of it is the getting there.
The discovery of a nice clean efficient renewable energy source, without *any* negative effects, to immediately replace all current fossil fuel usage.
A couple of million quid, to be acquired in such a way that it didn't get me into any trouble whatsoever, & not in a bad way, & I could go spend it happily. (look, I want a house!)

Um. What I *want* is for everyone to be nice to each other. But I don't think that's something you can wish either. Can I give up and save my third wish for another time?

Good questions, thank you! I am feeling more cheerful now than I was earlier, thanks to the cogitating, so hurrah for [livejournal.com profile] catsgomiaow & [livejournal.com profile] marnameow.

I think it was an episode of The X-Files where somebody found a genie, and Mulder wished for world peace, and suddenly there were no people in the entire world except for him, Scully and the genie. And the camera crew. And the person who walks around thirty seconds ahead of them stealing all the lightbulbs so they have to use their uber-torches. That ws apparently the only solution the genie could do.

Regarding Alyson Hannigan - you may find this (http://dave.org.uk/blog/archives/000314.html) interesting.

Thingy. Used to campaign on car safety & stuff.

That'd be Ralph Nader.

[The Demoncrats still haven't forgiven him for splitting the liberal vote letting Bush in. The Republicans feel the same about Ross Perot, and Clinton. It's not easy being a third party candidate.]

glad to have made that radiohead gig so superb for you dear, but i'm still glad i walked off halfway through to see kula shaker. i'd rather stick pins in my hand than vote for kerry or bush, so i'll vote for someone else. in some states you don't need to be a registered democrat to vote in their primary. i'm registered as a libertarian. you don't have them in engerland now do you?
