Experimentations in public transport: today I caught the bus to work instead of the tube. This was because I had my viola with me, & on a crowded tube you get glared at a *lot* for having something the size of a viola-case. Ken tells us that buses have spare capacity; & indeed this appears to be true, as I got a seat on the no 12 all the way from Lancaster Gate to St George's Circus, & no one glared at me at all. It was also 15p cheaper (£1 as against £1.15 with a Carnet on the tube). On the other hand, it took 15min or so longer door-to-door. Worth it for the seat, though.

Experimentations in shopping: well, OK, not actually experimentations as such, more just shopping. marnameow's poll on books got me thinking about books, from which it was just a short step to amazon. Whoops. Still. Have books on way (Consciousness Explained, Woman On The Edge Of Time, & a preorder of the next Harry Potter which was possibly a bit overenthusiastic of me, but it *is* 50% off, & I would be planning to buy it as-&-when). Also have nice Lush products on way. This spending thing is getting all carried away, especially as I am planning clothes, & possibly shoes, buying at the weekend. Must Not Spend All Money, Must Save Some For Glastonbury Ticket Next Month.

I'm suspecting that buses are a pretty good choice at the moment; the congestion charge is happening, so there's less traffic to get in the way of the buses, but also buses are confuzzling to people who aren't used to public transport, so the Tube will be taking more of the displaced commuters.

Then again, I've not noticed the Tube being more unpleasant than usual, either (Piccadilly Line between Hammersmith and Holborn).

You're probably right; also the Tube has virtually no spare capacity, & the buses still do have spare capacity.

Haven't caught the Tube since Monday, so don't know how bad my line has been (Bakerloo & Jubilee between Paddington & London Bridge. Should be Central & Jubilee *sigh*).

I can confirm the tube appears to be worse for the past few days around the higher-usage hours.
